One of the biggest lies from the Obama administration is their line that “the rich” aren’t paying their “fair share”. The fact that we have some of the highest corporate tax rates and the most confusing system in the world is another matter all in itself.
“One of the most worrying trends in the Index is the coinciding growth in the non-taxpaying public,” wrote Heritage authors Bill Beach and Patrick Tyrrell. “The percentage of people who do not pay federal income taxes, and who are not claimed as dependents by someone who does pay them, jumped from 14.8 percent in 1984 to 49.5 percent in 2009.”
The last sentence in that quote is just stunning. With nearly 50% of Americans not paying any federal taxes, tell me again how that is fair? Let me also remind you the people who aren’t paying these taxes also get thousands of dollars in the form of tax credits.
Next time you hear a liberal blabbering about “fair share”, show them this chart and tell them to explain how half of Americans not contributing is fair.
